Give a thoughtful and cozy homemade gift with these chocolate chip cookies in a jar!

A mason jar containing chocolate chip cookie mix. There is a ribbon and card with the recipe attached to the jar.

I was looking for the perfect party favor for my daughter's Cookie Monster-themed birthday party. When I thought of gifting chocolate chip cookie mix in a jar, I loved the idea for a few reasons:

  1. It was a gift that could include an entire family.

  2. It could be used at a later time but wasn't another item people had to keep around forever.

  3. It felt so cozy and nostalgic - perfect for the upcoming holiday season and winter months!

  4. It was relatively inexpensive, easy, and quick to put together.

  5. I love the DIY and homemade feel.

Here's everything you need to create your own chocolate cookie mix in a jar gift for your loved ones, teachers, neighbors, and friends:

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix Ingredients:

  • Quart-sized mason jar with lid

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 3/4 teason salt

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  • Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.

  • Place mixture in 1-quart jar.

  • Add the brown sugar next.

  • Add the sugar next.

  • Top with the chocolate chips.

Tip: To create the perfect layered look, pack each ingredient down with a spoon around the outside of the jar as you add them.

Finishing Touches

To complete the gift, there are a few final touches to add to the jar:

  • Add a circular piece of fabric or decorative paper on the lid.

  • Tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar and use it to attach the cookie recipe card.
